HaveBeen: Citytrip: Mostar (Herzegovina)

After visiting Sarajevo, me and my friends traveled to the Herzegovina part of Bosnia and Herzegovina; to the little, but touristic city Mostar, well-known for its historic bridge. We traveled by coach, which cost us around 10 euro and just a couple of hours.

Mostar is very small and within the city you can easily walk everywhere. Just like Sarajevo, Mostar is recovering from the war and everywhere you can see new buildings right next to destroyed ones that still need to be rebuild. In Mostar this might even be more evident, since this city is so small.

Thise buildings can be found on one side of the road...

...and this one on the other side.

This wrecked monument is just several meters from the buildings above.

Like Sarajevo, Mostar has an "old town" that is far more interesting than it's more modern parts of the city. This is the part where the famous old bridge can be found. This bridge is 25 meters high and gives a dazzling view over the river. There is a man jumping down from the bridge every day who is said to be training for the Olypics. Pretty impressive, becasue 25 meter really is high. Also, the water might look very blue and clean, but out host told us to absolutely not swim there because it is very dirty. Luckyily, there are some nice places to swim closeby.

For a small price you can visit the most and climb its tower, which gives you an even better view. The tower is very narrow and high, whih is a bit scary, but the view is absolutely worth it. The surroundings are so beautiful that every quickly snapped picture still looks like it could be on a postcard.

Because Mostar is so small, we saw most of it within one day and we used our second day to go on a trip to Blagaj, known for the Tekja house on the rocks. You can go there either by bus or by taxi, whih will take you no more than 20 minutes. Blagaj is definitely worth a visit! An afternoon is enough to see it all (including a walk through the surrounding area). Next to Tekjah, Blagaj offers many restaurants next to the water to eat very fresh fish from the river or drink some Bosnian coffee and also the possibility to do boatrides on the river.

For us, the Mostar adventure was short and sweet, since we still had three more cities on the list for our Balkan trip. But I would surely reccomend a combination of Mostar and Sarajevo for a vacation. Both places are lovely and have many trips to offer in their close surroundings.
