On my third day in Vilnius I realized I did not yet spend any time alone yet. So it was time to work on the alone part of traveling alone. After some recommendations of fellow-travellers, I decided to spend a day at Trakai to visit the lake and the castle.
I was a bit worried, because it was raining heavily when I was taking the bus. But since everyone told me that the weather always changed so quickly in Lithuania, I decided to go for it anyway. And I was lucky! By the time I reached Trakai, the rain was over and I even got some moments of sun.
The lake is absolutely wonderful. It is so calm and quiet. Full of little boats and piers, it offers many photo opportunities. Several times I took a little break to just sit and rest in this tranquil environment. Though there were many tourists at the castle, the lake was nearly deserted. All of the big tour busses stopped only at the other side of the lake and most people did not walk this far in the other direction.
The castle too, was definitely worth a visit. You could walk around the premises and inside there was a museum. There was even the possibility to do archery.
On my walk back to took a break and had a coffee at this lovely terrace. What more could I have asked for?
All in all it was a successful day of being alone. But admittedly, I still prefer socializing over solitude.
