HaveBeen: CityTrip - Luxembourg Ville (Luxembourg)

Moien! Et voici, my current home town; Luxembourg City. Probably one of the smallest capitals in the world. Around 60% of the citizens of this city are foreigners from over 150 different nationalities. The official national language is Luxembourgish, but French seems to have taken over as the most spoken language. But that's no problem for the Luxembourgish locals, since they often speak four languages fluently (Luxembourgish, French, German and English), if not more. I remember the people in England being so impressed because I speak three languages, well they would just get overwhelmed here.

The European Parliament, Court of Justice and several other European institutions are located in Luxembourg City, which makes it an important city in Europe. My photo tour starts in the area where all these buildings are located. This area is the corporate heart of the city with many big companies like Amazon and Rakuten located there or moving there soon.

On the left you can see the Philharmonie, the place where classical concerts are being performed. The building is also used to host corporate parties every once in a while. The large white building has a very sleek and modern atmosphere. It seems to be a building you either hate or love. Personally, I think it's pretty cool, especially since most other buildings in the area are just large concrete building blocks (sometimes combined with a lot of glass).

This here is a piece of art from the grounds of the MUDAM, the museum of modern art. They have much more of this inside. Pretty wacky stuff sometimes.

On the pictures above you see the a museum with collections about the war and about weapons. It's right next to MUDAM, so you can do a double visit and see both places at once.

Another piece of art on the grounds of the museum.

See here the view from the museum grounds on to the valley that lies around Luxembourg city in the shape of a half circle. This creates a lot of confusion when you look at the map of Luxembourg, because it doesn't show dept. And getting from here to one of those places down there might seem like a short walk, but it might take you quite a while, since a direct route is usually not available and you'll need to climb quite a bit to get to your destination.

Next, we go down into the valley;

Quite a steep descent at some spots. But while doing this you get to enjoy a lovely view. While walking down there in the Valley, you realize how very high the bridges that go over the valley really are.

After walking up again on the other side of the valley, we find the palace of the grand-duke of Luxembourg. Often, there are guards standing in front of the posts, but I guess it was too late when we were there his time.

 On the other side of the city is one of Luxembourg's famous landmarks; Gëlle Fra, which means "golden woman". It's a monument for the Luxembourgish citizens who volunteered to serve in the first World War.

When you go down at the other side of the valley, you arrive in the area Grund, one of the most beautiful places of Luxembourg.

This is an area full of bars and restaurants which is very lively in the evening. There are many events taking place in Neumunster Abei (see picture below). This can be anything from concerts, to festivals or arts expositions. The building used to be a prison but it a great cultural attraction now.

Below you see the view from one of the best located terraces of the city. Finding a table here is always a bi of a struggle (you have to be lucky) but it's worth it.

And then the sun went down (and the battery of my camera died) so it was over with the pictures. These were definitely some of the best spots of the city though.

Another session might follow soon, but till then: Äddi!
