HaveBeen: CityTrip - Prague (Czech Republic) - Part 1

I’ve been living abroad for quite a while now. I go back home two – four times per year and my friends and parents come and visit me regularly. But let’s face the facts, visiting Luxembourg once is fun, but a second time I already have to get creative to find new things to do. The city and country are just very small. My friend Jessica visited me two times already so she’s basically a local in Luxembourg now and we had to come up with something new for our next meeting; Prague!

We booked a hostel close to the centre (Air BNB again; https://www.airbnb.com/?locale=en) within walking distance to most attractions. This cost us as much as a bed in a shared room for six in the hostel we booked before, so it was a good deal!

I arrived in Prague first and the owner of the hostel asked me if I could come and pick up the key earlier. So me and my printout from GoogleMaps started the 10 minute walk, only to arrive back at the Florence bus station after almost one hour. More proof that I am terrible with directions (but I swear that there was this police officer who gave me wrong directions). By that time Jessica had already arrived at the bus station and we took a taxi to the apparent (which was really very close, but in the opposite direction then where I went) who tried to rip us off big time, but I was too happy to finally arrive at the apartment to mind a lot.

The first thing we did in Prague was finding food (of course) to give us some fuel for the day. The second was finding the place where would could sign up for city tours. We found out you can sign up for a large amount of tours and pub crawls on the main square of Prague and for the boat tours close to the bridge. Options a-plenty! We choose one of the free walking tours (there is no set fee, you give the tour guide a tip according to how much you can afford and how good you think he or she was).

We had a lovely tour and saw a lot of Prague (some places we could not find back anymore later though, which was pretty sad). The tour gave us a good opportunity to choose the places we would like to go to during the next couple of days and to get some tips about things to do.

The tour ended at the most famous bridge of Prague, with an amazing view on the Prague castle. This bridge is super crowded  and seemed quite the opportunity for pickpockets. Not quite relaxing, but very beautiful. On the bridge there are many artist, salesman and statues (and of course the view), so there is plenty to see.

The bridge leads to a whole different part of Prague; even more to see! But we decided to leave this part for the next day, since we were both pretty tired after all the traveling and sightseeing. So after a nice dinner we went hunting for the cider both me and Jessica love so much (Rekorderlig) but we can’t buy at home. We bought all the available flavors and some snacks and were then prepared for a night of chilling in the apartment. The perfect end of our first day in Prague.
